Lying Akufo Addo Stripped Naked On 10,000 KM Road Claim -He Built Only 68 km in 5 Years!

President Akufo Addo’s blatantly deceptive claim that his administration has constructed a staggering 10,875 has been exposed as a fraud that the President perpetrated on Ghanaians during his latest State of the Nations Address (SONA).

During the speech where the President in a rather unprecedented childish gesture mocked his critics, stated: “In the five years of my government, so far, more roads have been built, improved, and upgraded than at any other equivalent period under any government in the history of Ghana. Some 10,875 kilometres of new roads have been constructed in these five years.”

However, official records show that the Akufo Addo administration of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) had built only 68 kilometres of new roads in the past six years.

The majority of road works by the government are mere rehabilitation and upgrading of existing roads.

Even at that, the total of all such road works in the past six years of the Akufo Addo administration sums up to just 4, 263.37 roads and not 10, 875 as the President scandalously claimed.

It is unclear who sneaked such a dangerous lie into the President’s SONA speech because official data provided recently by the Roads and Highways Minister, Kwasi Amoako Atta, who is incidentally a direct cousin of the President, shows that between 2017 and 2021 under the Akufo Addo administration, only 4,263.37km of roads were constructed and upgraded by the government, with only 68km of new construction executed.

If the President’s claim is anything to go by, it means that after his administration had spent approximately five years constructing and upgrade 4, 263 kilometers of roads, the government in just three months of 2022 had constructed 6,000 kilometres of new roads.

That would have been unprecedented in the history of the world if it had been true. Unfortunately, official records point out a possible hallucination by President Akufo Addo.

A civil engineer, Abdulai Mahama, who spoke to Accra-based Joy Morning Show dismissed the President’s fanciful claim.

“Even if over 80 contractors were contracted and fully-paid, from last year May, to this year March, you cannot execute 6,000km of road,” Mahama noted.

Meanwhile, the public has taken the President to the cleaners for the fantastic claim and have challenged him to provide verifiable proof that his government indeed constructed such an unprecedented road network.

The Akufo Addo administration has become notorious for its deceptive claims on projects. A couple of years ago, Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia organised a special website to outline all the social infrastructure that the Akufo Addo administration had financed, however, as it turned out, about half of the projects were existing projects that had been undertaken by previous governments.

The Akufo Addo administration is desperate to justify its acquisition of the largest amount of loans and aides in Ghana’s 60-year history and had perhaps resulted in the cooking up of projects that only exist in the imagination of the government.

The government had blown up Ghana’s public debt from just under GHC 120 billion in 2017 to a staggering GHC 350 billion in just five years. Essentially, the Akufo Addo administration had amassed almost double the public debt of all previous governments combined since independence.

Yet, the administration is accused as the one that had invested in social infrastructure the least.
