NPP Starts Blowing Money On Elections -As Alan Sprays Money On Polling Station Nomination Forms Nationwide

The Minister of Trade and Industry and the New Patriotic Party’s (NPP)’s presidential hopeful, Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen, has splashed about one million cedis to buy nomination forms for more than 60,000 aspiring polling station executives of the ruling party nationwide.

There are over 38,000 polling stations nationwide and there are estimations that more than two people from each of these polling stations would be picking up the nomination forms costing GHC 10 each.

According to reports, including in the pro-NPP newspaper, Daily Guide, Mr. Kyeremanteng paid for the entire nomination forms in all the 275 constituencies, as he sends a clear message confirming widely-held speculations that he would be activating his presidential ambition for 2024.

It is unclear where the Trade Minister got the money to splash around, but the NPP is noted for wasteful display of dubiously-acquired wealth during a build-up to major national elections. Sometimes these monies are pilfered from taxpayers’ funds.

The governing NPP on February 19, 2022, started its month-long internal processes to elect officers for the party at the polling station level. The process is scheduled till March 19, 2022.

Meanwhile, with the decision of Mr. Kyeremanteng to fund the nomination form for these polling agents, he has sent a clear signal to other aspiring presidential hopefuls of the ruling party like Vice President Mahamudu Bawumia that he is firmly in the race.

Pundits think that Mr. Kyeremanteng is the natural replacement when President Akufo Addo ends his term in 2024.

Mr, Kyeremanteng has been the biggest rival of Akufo Addo in at least two presidential primaries in the NPP.
