Chief Justice Allegedly Packs Law School With Fake Students

Ghana’s embattled Chief Justice, Kwasi Anin Yeboah, who is already the main person of interest in an alleged US$5million bribe scandal, has been named in another jaw-dropping scandal.

US-based Ghanaian investigative journalist, Kevin Taylor, has alleged that Justice Anin Yeboah was name-dropped by a man who funneled unqualified students into the Ghana Law School through the backdoor as the one who ordered the alleged academic fraud.

The students, said to be 20 in number, reportedly gained admission without writing entrance exams and this was made possible by an alleged criminal directive from the Chief Justice.

And as the beneficiaries are the children and relatives of people at the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House and from the top bench of the Judiciary, the issue has since been swept under the carpet, alleges Kevin Taylor.

According to the revelations, the 20 students in question never had any background in Law and that they only got to become Law students because they are the relatives of people in the Jubilee House and judges at the Appeals Court.

The whole move to funnel them into Law school without sitting exams became opportune when the then Director of Legal Education, Lawyer Kwasi Prempeh, went on leave. 

In his place, one Maxwell Opoku Agyemang was appointed as Acting Director of Legal Education, alleges KEVIN Taylor.

“It was during the short era of Maxwell Opoku Agyemang as Director of the school, which saw some 20 students illegally being slotted into the law school without taking the entrance exams. Our checks on these 20 students revealed some are children of Appeals court judges, some retired judges and person coming from the Seat of Government(Jubilee House) of Ghana,” alleges Kevin Taylor who is head of the Loud Silence Media.

According to him, When Kwasi Prempeh resumed his position as the director of legal education, he found out that some 20 students had been added to the final list he knew before going on leave.

Mr. Prempeh, according to Kevin Taylor, asked his registrars about the additions to the list and was told that nobody exactly how but that the students had been spirited into the list while Maxwell Opoku Agyemang was serving in Acting Position as the director of legal education in his absence.

The issue eventually blew out and a committee was set up to investigate the matter. 

The committee, he says, was chaired by the outgoing President of the Ghana Bar Association, Anthony Forson. Also on the committee is Justin Amenuvor, the man who represented the Electoral Commission in the 2020 election petition.

“When Maxwell Opoku Agyemang was called to come to the Committee to explain how come 20 students had their way to the law school without writing exams, he stated that it was an order which came from Chief Justice Anin Yeboah and the Presidency for him to slot in those students secretly,” Kevin Taylor is quoted as saying.

Meanwhile, this is the same Maxwell Opoku Agyemang, who led the crusade of petitions to the Presidency for EC Chairperson, Charlotte Osei, to be dismissed by the Akufo-Addo government.

Mr. Taylor adds that his media company, Loud Silence, has intercepted documents of the Committee especially the response of Maxwell Opoku Agyemang and names of all the 20 students who were slotted into the law school illegally and those they are related to

The media outlet says it will be giving out the names in subsequent episodes.

Already, Justice Anin Yeboah is embroiled in allegations that he demanded and received part of a US$5million bribe from a traditional ruler, Ogyeedom Obranu, to pervert justice in the traditional ruler’s case with Ghana Telecom over which Kwasi Anin Yeboah IS Presiding judge.

That allegation had been made by one Lawyer Afrifa, who was counsel for the traditional ruler.

Justice Anin Yeboah claims he never demanded the dirty bribe.
