Buem MP Calls For Public Pressure On EC To Create Guan Constituency

Member of Parliament for Buem, Kofi Adams, has called for public pressure to be mounted on the Electoral Commission (EC) to hold election for an MP in the newly created Guan district.

The people in the district made up of constituents in the Santrokofi, Akpafu, Lolobi and Likpe communities could not vote in the Parliamentary elections in 2020 because the EC had failed to create a constituency there.

“I think the way is clear for the Electoral Commission to immediately bring the C.I. to Parliament for the creation of the Guan constituency, or whatever name they want to give it,” Kofi Adams told Accra based Citi FM

The Buem MP who says he is constrained to offer support to the people of the Guan district

said the EC must kick-start legal processes to create a constituency for them following the inauguration of the Guan District.

“I want to urge all of you who are interested in governance and who are interested in democracy to join us to put pressure on the Electoral Commission to do what is right,” he said.

According to him even though he has been giving all the support he can to the people of the Guan district, he can only do so much.

The C.I. needed to create the constituency ahead of the 2020 elections could not mature in the 7th Parliament.

Meanwhile, the Guan District in the Oti Region was created following a Legislative Instrument laid in Parliament by the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development in 2019.

The area was previously part of the Hohoe Municipality.
