The Audit Service will, from the 25th of September, be recruiting new staff into the service, thanks to financial clearance that was granted in July 2021 by the Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta.
A letter communicating the financial clearance said the Service was free to recruit eight hundred (800) new staff.
“The Hon. Minister of Finance is hereby granted financial clearance to enable the Controller – Accountant General and the board of Audit Service to recruit eight hundred (800) personnel to augment the staffing position of the Audit Service Department,” the letter stated,
“The Human Resource Department of the Audit Service is to ensure that the personnel have their documents processed in time and placed on the mechanized payroll early enough to enable Controller Accountant General’s Department effect payment of their salaries.”
The letter is signed by the Chief of Staff at the Jubilee House, Frema Osei-Opare and is dated the 21st of July, 2021.
It is not clear why the financial clearance for the Audit Service has remained under wraps since it was granted in July. In the same month, financial clearances for National Security, the Ministry of Interior and the Ministry of Education and had been made known to the public.
Sources are alleging the secrecy was to enable the Service to recruit party members and supporters into the Audit Service.
The letter directed that the appointments should not begin earlier than 25th September 2021.
“By copy of this letter, the Controller and Accountant General is requested to effect the payment of their salaries and make appropriate deductions of Social Security and Income Tax to SSNIT and the Domestic Tax Division of Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) respectively,” the letter added.
