Confusion At PNC Press Conference Over Status Of Suspended General Secretary

A press conference by the People’s National Convention (PNC) on Wednesday became chaotic when Executives clashed over the status of the party’s General Secretary, Janet Asana Nabla.

The party’s Greater Accra Regional Chairman, Bala Maikankan, stormed the party’s headquarters in Abavana, Accra, to demand an explanation over the supposed suspension of the General Secretary.

This disrupted the press conference on Wednesday and raised concerns about where the PNC is going.

The Police had to be called in to ensure matters did not become violent, causing the press conference to be held behind closed doors instead. Eventually, the regional Chairman was escorted away by the cops.

It would be recalled that on August 28, the PNC Chairman announced the suspension of Mrs. Nabla for alleged misconduct and disregard to the party’s leadership.

However, following that, the decision was dismissed by Regional Chairmen of the party who accused party Chairman, Moses Dani Baah, and the 2020 presidential Candidate, David Apasera, of trying to get rid of the General Secretary in an attempt to cover up some party monies that they have misappropriated.

Mrs. Nabla herself has also insisted she is not on suspension.

“It is on record that, the hardworking General Secretary has on countless occasions complained about how the Leader and the Chairman misappropriated the party’s funds to the tune of GH₵1.7 million during the 2020 elections,” the regional Chairmen said in a statement..

They also said the supposed suspension of the General Secretary is null and void because the August 28 meeting “fell short of forming a quorum in line with Article 45 (3) of the PNC’s constitution which requires nine (9) out of sixteen (16) regional chairmen of the party to be present.”

These among other matters arising, were expected to be addressed at the latest press conference which also had the PNC’s Election 2020 Presidential Candidate, David Apasera, and the Party Chairman in attendance.
