The Ghana Police Service has announced the killing of two suspected armed robbers believed to have been involved in robberies and murder on the Kintampo-Buipe-Tamale highway.

The two, Hamidu Umaru and Haadu were killed in a shootout with the Police, according to a statement from the Police.

“The detained suspects are Saaju Bukari, Bertor Saabi, Ali Amadi, and Isaad Seidu,” the statement said, adding that they were arrested following an intelligence-led operation by the Special Anti-Robbery Task Force.

As part of the operation, two locally manufactured pistols and live cartridges, machetes, bayonets, pepper spray cans and stung guns were retrieved.

Also, some items suspected to have been stolen were retrieved.

“Preliminary investigations suggest that these suspects were behind many robberies including the killing of an international journalist some days ago,’ the statement signed by ACP Kwesi Fori, Ag. Dir. Gen of Public Affairs said.

The statement added that the Police have since instituted some rigorous measures to combat crime in the area, asking the public to cooperate.
