KNUST SRC ELECTIONS TURN Bloody, Suspended

The Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST), was thrown into a state of utter chaos as the institution’s Students Representative Committee (SRC) elections practiclly turned into a bloodbath.

Videos seen by Whatsup News show students hurling chairs and tables at one another with the main protagonists reportedly being residents of the University Hall (Katanga) and the Unity Hall (Conti) in the early hours of Sunday.

After the dust settled, several bloodied students hobbled along to seek medical attention from serious injuries.

The fight reportedly started after a misunderstanding during the elections on Sunday, July 4, 2021.

According to eye-witnesses, the incident occurred during the vetting of aspirants for the school’s SRC at the Great Hall of the University.

It all started when the age-0ld rivalry between the Katanga and Unity Halls clashed on their way to support their candidates who were aspiring for posts in the SRC.

“When the ‘Katangees’ arrived, there was some sort of confusion between them and the Continentals. One gentleman believed to be part of the management team of an aspirant from Conti was preventing the ‘Katangees’ from entering the Hall. This caused the first chaos between the two sides,” said an eyewitness.

The fight has resulted in destroyed school properties with values yet unknown.
