Mahama Wades Into Ejura Execution

Ex-President John Dramani Mahama has asked challenged President Akufo Addo to halt the carnage at Ejura-Sekyeredumase in the Ashanti Region where soldiers and police officers indiscriminately opened fire on protesting residents.

“I urgently call on President Nana Akufo-Addo to initiate an immediate de-escalation of the situation in Ejura,” he said in a statement issued on Tuesday June 29, 2021.

“There must be a very thorough investigation of both the murder of the youth activist and the security rules of engagement, which resulted in the shooting to death of the two others,” Mahama charged in a statement posted on his website.

The unrest in Ejura stems from the brutal murder of a social activist, Ibrahim Muhammed, aka Macho Kaaka by a mob believed to be associated with the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP).

Kaaka was attacked in his home on June 25, 2021, and gave up the ghost on Monday, June 28, 2021.

He’s alleged to have been killed because of his vocal social activism, which some felt was making the government unpopular.

His family says he had faced threats over his activism prior to the attack.

The killing of Kaaka sparked intense anger in the town, and a procession of townsfolks from his funeral today, June 29, 2021, led to more carnage as heavily armed soldiers opened fire on them, killing three and injuring almost a dozen others.
