Soldiers given orders from the Military high command under the direct purview of President Akufo Addo on Tuesday shot live bullets at women, children and youth of Ejura-Sekyeredumase, killing three and seriously injuring a dozen others.
Whatsup News has seen live videos of how the youth marching on the streets of the town were suddenly confronted by a detachment of soldiers and anti-riot police team and without warning, the security agencies started emptying a hail of bullets at the protestors.
In the video, one of about two soldiers were seen kneeling and aiming their live guns into the crowd.
In the ensuing chaos instigated by the security agents, two persons were hit with the crowd of children, women and young men running for their dear lives in all directions.
The first victim was 25-year-old Abdul Nasir Yussif who was shot in the left shoulder and chest. He died before arriving at the Ejura Hospital.
The second victim, Muntala Mohammed, aged 26 was shot in the back through to the chest. He arrived at the hospital with a severe chest injury and internal bleeding. All attempts to save his life failed and he eventually gave up the ghost 10 minutes after getting rushed to the emergency ward.
It is unclear who ordered the fully armed military detachment with live bullets to Ejura.
A statement released by the Ashanti Regional Police Command and signed by ASP Godwin Ahianyo claimed the townsfolks had attacked the deployed anti-riot security agents. However, live videos of the scene prove otherwise.
The youth were having a procession alright, from Macho Kaaka’s funeral, but the video shows that mayhem started when the security agents arrived at the scene and started shooting into the crowd indiscriminately.
Shishu Issah, a crying resident of the town, told TV3 that “ …after we have gone to bury our brother, we were angry and we’re showing our anger. We were not rioting, so you should have let us vent our frustration. But the soldiers came and shot those two guys. That provoked the youth…It is very painful”
The brutal attacks on unarmed civilians by the security agencies at Ejura is the second time security agents have openly executed protesting civilians since December 2020. During the general elections in December 2020 elections, armed security agents opened fire on protesting civilians at the Techiman South constituency in the Brong Ahafo region, instantly killing almost half a dozen of them and injuring a dozen others.
Also, in December 2018, thugs of the governing party who have been conscripted into the illegal SWAT unit of the National Security Secretariat had stormed Ayawaso West Wuogon constituency in Accra fully armed and had shot powerful assault rifles indiscriminately through a crowd of unarmed civilians protesting election malpractices.
To date, nobody has been punished for the excesses of all the above-mentioned incidence.
At Ejura, on June 29, 2021, townsfolks were returning from the burial of social activist, Ibrahim Mohammed aka Macho Kaaka, who was murdered by alleged by a faceless mob after bodyguards of the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura, Salisu Mohammed Bamba, reportedly threatened to get rid of Macho Kaaka whose advocacy for better social equity was making the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) “unpopular”.
He was brutally attacked on June 25, 2021, and gave up the ghost today, June 28, 2021, around 12.30 at the Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital (KATH) where he had been rushed to in a vegetative state.
In what appears to be a well-coordinated event, the Ejura Police Commander, Supt. Owusu Bempah on June 15, 2021, had written a suspicious letter to Macho Kaaka warning him to stop his social media advocacy highlighting corruption and misgovernance in Ghana and his hometown of Ejura.
Macho Kaaka was syncing his advocacy for a better Ghana with that of the youth movement called #FixTheCountry.
A statement released by the FixTheCountry Group confirms the possible orchestration of Macho Kaaka’s murder, citing a voice recording of bodyguards to Ejura MCE threatening to eliminate the social commentator.
“…Kaaka received voice messages of threats being made on his life. In fact, there are voice recordings on which some persons known to be bodyguards to the Municipal Chief Executive of Ejura Sekyeredumase, could be heard saying that the activities of Kaaka on Facebook were making the governing New Patriotic Party unpopular in the area and that every means possible must be used to stop him,”
Macho Kaaka is an outspoken social media commentator who live streams poor infrastructure and government-abandoned projects across the country and had associated himself with the FixTheCountry youth movement has is campaigning for social equity.
