It appears, assassins have been unleashed on headmasters participating as enumerators for the 2021 Population and Housing Census, as unknown gunmen shot and killed another headteacher in his home at Cape Coast in the Central Region.
The deceased, Yaw Eyifa Gorman, popularly known as Dr. Sting, was shot in his car this weekend after he returned home from a census training on Saturday evening.
Narrating the incident, a co-tenant of the deceased narrated how gunmen had ambushed Dr. Sting around 7:40 pm and shot him through his drivers’ window.
The co-tenant who was interviewed by Accra-based JoyNews said residents heard the sound of the gun and rushed out to find out the limp body of the deceased in his saloon car.
“We were all in our room and we heard a loud noise ‘boom’. Some of us even though it was a knockout. Then all of a sudden, we heard his wife screaming ‘Please someone should come and help me!’ So when we did, we saw his lifeless body in front of his steering wheel with blood in the car,” he told JoyNews in an interview monitored by Whatsup News.
The co-tenants described Mr. Gorman as a friendly person and could not imagine him to have stepped on anybody’s toes.
“He has no issue with anybody in this house. This is disturbing and shocking because it didn’t happen anywhere in town but right in his house and that is what we are afraid of.”
Meanwhile, the Central Region Police Command has launched investigations into the incident.
This is the second of such killings in less than two weeks.
Earlier the month, a former Headmaster of the Bantama SDA Primary School in the Sene West District in the Bono East Region has been shot dead by men suspected to be armed robbers.
Elijah Asante was reportedly murdered on the Bantama Kwame Danso road where he was returning home from an ongoing workshop for field officers in the District capital.
He was also one of the enumerators for the 2021 Population and Housing Census and he was killed around the same time as Dr. Sting.
