Police Gun Down Civilian In Ofoase, Three Others Sustain Gunshot wounds

In a disturbingly growing brazenness of the Ghana Police Service, some of its officers have opened fire on irate civilians, killing one and injuring three others in Ofoase in the Akyemansa District in the Eastern Region, Whatsup News has gathered.

According to reports, the body of 36-year-old Emmanuel Osae who was shot dead by the police has reportedly been deposited at the morgue, while the three others who sustained gunshot wounds have been put on are on admission at Akyem Oda government Hospital.

The incident reportedly occurred Friday, April 30, 2021, at Brenase a suburb of Ofoase when a teacher, identified simply as “Zark” had his motorbike rammed into by another biker.

The other biker reportedly assaulted the teacher for the mishap, but a couple of young men in the town stepped in to the aid of the teacher and confiscated the bike of the other unnamed biker, asking him to repair Zark’s bike before they release his bike.

The angry bike reportedly went to the local police station at Brenase. The Police reportedly heeded the call with all guns blazing at the youth of the town who stood their grounds to seek justice for the teacher whose motorbike had been damaged by the other biker.

According to an eyewitness in an interview with Accra-based Starr FM, the police started firing their guns unprovoked.

“We were standing outside when we saw the armed police in the vehicle pass to kotokuom area, but all that we saw was that the police stopped and attempted to arrest a certain guy but the person escaped. So his brother wanted to enquire from the Police why they have stormed the community to arrest his brother. Suddenly, a Police officer called Safo fired a warning shot which upset the guy to insult the Police. A guy from a farm holding cutlass coincidentally appeared at the scene. The Police aimed at him and shot him, then shot the guy who questioned them, and shot another person who was passing,” the eyewitness narrated.

Assembly Member for Brenase electoral Area, Mathew Kwadwo Adagba has confirmed the high tension in the town, following the brutal incident.

As at press time, the youth of the town were reportedly mobilising to attack the Police officers involved in the shooting incident at Ofoase Police station.
