Chieftaincy Tensions Over Wenchike

Reports have gone viral on social media about a mass exodus of members of a rival royal faction in Wenchike, a community of Chereponi in the North East Region, following the controversial enskinment of a new chief.

According to the reports, members of the Jaabu faction of the Wenchike royal class are probably afraid of likely reprisals to an earlier attempt to disrupt the enskinment of Alhaji Abubakari Awufor.

The Jaabu faction is said to have mobilized with the intent of preventing the entrance of the new chief into Wenchike after he had been enskinned at the Gbewaa Palace in Yendi by the Overlord of Dagbon, Yaa-Naa Abukari Mahama.

It is not exactly known why the Jaabu clan attempted to resist the return of the new Chief intoi Wenchike, especially after he had had the blessing of the Yaa Naa at the Gbewaa Palace.

In response to the potential clash, the Police had deployed some one hundred heavily armed personnel on the ground to keep the peace.

However, the resistance did not exactly go through and in the aftermath, members of the Jaabu clan are said to be fleeing for dear life, fearing repercussions.
