Election-Related Killings Reach Six

A sixth victim has died after he was shot at during the 2020 Parliamentary and Presidential elections.

Ibrahim Abas, a Polling Agent for the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) reportedly succumbed to his injuries today while in hospital after he had allegedly been shot by a bodyguard of Lord Commey, Director of Operations at the Presidency.

“We lost brother Ibrahim of town council line Accra this morning, he was among Comrades who suffered gunshot at the Odokor divisional H/Q collation center in Ablekuma Central Constituency, he is also a brother to the NDC Constituency Women organizer Hajia Rahinatu,’ was a tweet from one of his close relatives stated.

Abas’ death brings to six, the confirmed number of people who were killed by NPP thugs, Police and soldiers deployed to polling stations and collation centers.

He was shot at a collation center in the Ablekuma Constituency by a thug identified only as ‘Kola’ a bodyguard of Lord Commey. 

According to reports, when the NPP realized that it was losing the Ablekuma Central Parliamentary seat, the trigger-happy bodyguard stormed and started firing indiscriminately into the crowd of unarmed citizens at the polling station.

Those severely wounded were rushed to the hospital but Abas succumbed to his wounds.
