NDC Supporters Sleep In Techiman Police Armoury To Guard Ballot Box

A ballot box from a polling station in the Sene West Constituency, which has not had its contents counted yet by the Electoral Commission is being policed by some supporters of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) in a Police armory where it is stored.

These passionate party supporters have been spending day and night in the armory to ensure that agents of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) and the Police do not stuff the box with already thumb-printed ballot papers to cheat for President Akufo-Addo and the NPP’s Parliamentary Candidate for Sene West.

That ballot box was from a stronghold of the NDC in the Constituency. It has remained unopened because the NPP has demanded that its contents be not counted, after thugs from the ruling party, stormed the polling station and snatched the ballot.

They however did not succeed in taking it away because a Police officer on duty fired shots at the criminals, forcing them to abandon the ballot box. Later, when it was recovered, it was realized that the NPP’s seal on the box had been broken even though the seals of the NDC and the EC were still intact.

The NPP however used the breakage of their seal as an excuse to demand that the contents of that ballot box be excluded from counting, something that has inured to the benefit of both the NPP Pc and President Akufo-Addo. However, the NDC has insisted the contents of that ballot box must be counted.

To calm down tensions, the Police transferred the ballot box to an armory at its municipal office at Techiman. NDC supporters followed the box to the armory and have since been sleeping in that armory to protect its content.

Earlier today, the General Secretary of the NDC, Mr. Johnson Asiedu Nketia reiterated the party’s demand for the contents of that ballot box to be counted.
