The party of the widow of former President Jerry Rawlings is saying that tears from members of the party that her husband founded are not welcome.
According to the National Democratic Party (NDP) the NDC has no right to mourn Rawlings because when Rawlings was alive, the NDC allegedly disrespected him.
The piece of what is seen as dirty politics that desecrates the memory of a man whose body is still chilling in a mortuary fridge has annoyed some people on social media who have accused Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings of behaving like an uncultured woman.
At a press conference held in Accra today, a certain Alhaji Frimpong, who described himself as the General Secretary of Konadu’s NDP said the NDC insulted Rawlings when he was alive; “And now that he is no more, they want to utilize his death to galvanize support for their failing political campaign ahead of the 2020 general elections.”
He alleges that, the NDC sponsored US based investigative journalist, Kevin Ebo Taylor to insult Rawlings. “We are troubled that some of these same persons, upon the demise of President Rawlings, now seek to lead in mourning the man; they have begun to shed crocodile tears. They spent thousands of dollars to sponsor videos made in Washington DC by one Kelvin Taylor, who is tipped to be information Minister in the event of a Mahama comeback, to insult President Rawlings in words, some of which we dare not repeat, and posted them all over the world through Facebook, WhatsApp, and other social media platforms.
“With the apparent endorsement of John Mahama and the NDC leadership, Kelvin Taylor said, and I quote, “Rawlings is a modern-day Judas and a hypocrite. He and his sleazy wife are greedy. He behaves as a lapdog to the NPP government and always kisses the ass of Nana Akufo-Addo anytime he gets the opportunity to speak about corruption.
“He also went on to say and I quote, “JJ Rawlings is not God, he is bad national and a modern-day Judas… and such a man does not even deserve to be a Statesman.” “JJ Rawlings is a coward… [you are] a hypocrite and a disgrace on the lap of a midget.”
There is no evidence whatsoever that Kevin Taylor, a card bearing members of the NPP who got estranged from his party because what he said is the corruption within the Akufo-Addogovernment, has been sponsored by the NDC.
Apparently, the deathly politics over the carcass of jerry John Rawlings is at the behest of the Akufo-Addo Jubilee House which has all but hijacked the Rawlings death for whatever political points the NPP can score.
But on social media, many appalled people are pointing out to Alhaji Frimpong that his conduct is totally contrary to the tenets of Islam.
As for Nana Konadu Agyemang Rawlings, many are shocked that the former President’s widow could allow her husband’s death to be used for such sick politicking. Jerry John Rawlings’ corpse is still in the mortuary.
Already, the traditional elders of Anlo, Rawlings’ tribe, have called her out over her wanton violation of tradition. Since Rawlings’ death, Konadu has excluded Rawlings’ own people from his funeral plans and rather treated President Akufo-Addolike the clan head of Rawlings’ people.
Without first informing the chiefs and people of Anlo, she also went to inform the Asantehene of her husband’s death. And now her party is demanding that the NDC does not mourn the man who founded the party.
