An irate mob at Kapwumu-Fuo in the Northern Region reportedly resisted a Police arrest action by disarming the officers of an AK 47 rifle and assaulting them with sticks and machetes.
Constable Atsu Adanu, 35; Lance Corporal Mordzi Samuel, 34, and Constable Baba Iddirisu had accompanied a complainant to the community to arrest an alleged thief when the mob attacked.
Abdul Rahman, the suspected thief had been reported to the Tamale Police by one Rasheed who was leading the Police to arrest him. However, after the Police had effected the arrest, the mob which carried machetes and sticks had accosted the officers
The Police were said to be carrying only one AK 47 rifle and had been out-crowded and so were easily disarmed. The mob then went on to execute justice.
Constable Atsu Adanu sustained a deep cut on his forehead while L/C Samuel Mordzi suffered a deep cut at the back of his head and forehead. Constable Baba Iddirisu however managed to run away.
Rasheed the complainant, who had also managed to run away later called the station and the Police responded with reinforcement.
The Police have since rounded up 25 suspects for questioning at the regional Police Headquarters.
