The Accountant for the Amansie Central District Assembly, Richard Oppong, is in the grips of the Police after he was caught stealing the Assembly’s money.
The manner of his arrest entailed the District Chief Executive of the Assembly, Nana Asamoah Boateng, luring him into an office and locking him up until the Police arrived for the alleged thief.
Oppong is alleged to have looted Gh¢220,500 from the bank account of the Assembly after managing to forge the signature of the DCE.
Hon. Asamoah Boateng became aware of the theft after the bankers of the Assembly had called to alert him.
It is not clear if the alleged thieving Accountant had been successful in past thefts or not.
Immediately the bank called and alerted the DCE, he called Oppong and pretended that he had difficulty getting his mobile money account to work, before inviting him over to offer help. Unbeknownst to Oppong, it was a trap.
Immediately the alleged thief entered the DCE’s office, he locked it up and called the Police.
“It took a while for us to arrest him. I asked my secretary to intentionally tell him that I need help with my mobile money and when the message got to him, he came. I locked him in the office until the police arrived,” the DCE is reported as narrating.
The suspect is still in Police custody and will appear before court on 3rd November.
