An undecided opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) has decided to postpone the launch of its manifesto launch to September 7, 2020, more than a week later than it had earlier promised.
This is a major postponement for NDC, particularly as its main rival in the governing New Patriotic Party (NPP) has already beaten it to the game by launching its manifesto last weekend August 22, 2020.
A statement released today by the NDC’s party’s General Secretary, Johnson Asiedu Nketiah stated that the postponement is to allow its National Executive Committee (NEC) and the Council of Elders to approve the policies contained in the manifesto.
“At its weekly meeting held on Thursday 27th of August, 2020, the Functional Executive Committee of the National Democratic Congress has fixed Monday the 7th day of September 2020 as the date for the launch in Accra of the party’s Manifesto for the December 2020 General Elections,” wrote Mr. Asiedu Nketiah (General Mosquito).
“This is to enable the National Executive Committee and the Council of Elders approve the policy principles and strategies promised in the Manifesto.”
Earlier this week, the National Communications Officer of the NDC, Sammy Gyamfi had claimed at a Press Conference that the NDC was set to launch its manifesto on Monday, August 31, 2020. This was against the fact that he had earlier promised that the document would be launched on August 29, 2020.
The dilly-dallying of the NDC is forcing critics to conclude that the party may be ill-prepared for the 2020 elections.
Others also believe that the party had carefully waited for the governing NPP to release its own manifesto so, it can quickly make adjustments based on the policies promised by the Akufo Addo administration of the NPP.
