Teacher Trainee Allowances Unpaid Since February

Monthly allowances due Teacher Trainees across the country have not been paid since February.

It is not clear why, but apparently, the Education and Finance Ministries are claiming that there is no money.

As a result of the stifled funds, students who, along with the rest of Ghanaians have been hard hit by the deadly coronavirus have been left in the lurch.

The stalling of the monthly allowances come on the back of the fact that the Akufo-Addo-government has also increased the school fees of teacher trainees and introduced feeding fees which used to be free under the previous government.

Many Trainee teachers are already agitating over the double whammy from the government.

On Wednesday, National Communication Officer of the opposition NDC, Mr. Samuel Gyamfi, also lamented that the Akufo-Addo government has scraped the automatic job placement system for teacher trainees that used to be the norm for a long time before the advent of the Akufo-Addo Government.

According to him, in addition to scraping the automatic job placement, teacher trainees are also burdened with licensure examinations.

Meanwhile, enrolment into the various Teacher Training colleges have also been reduced due to the allowance system, as Government has said it does not have money to pay as allowances to many more students at a time.
