Accra-based Joy News is reporting that three units at the Child Health Department of the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital have been slammed shut after a pre-basic schoolboy died of Covid-19 at the facility.
The three closed units include the Emergency, Intensive and Neo-natal cum Paediatric care units where the boy was undergoing treatment.
The exact age of the deceased minor is unknown, but Whatsup News gathered that boy was barely in primary school. This will be one of the rarest Covid-19 deaths worldwide, as it has been scientifically proven that hardly had any child of pre-teenage age bracket been killed Covid-19 out of the global death toll of over 231,000.
According to JoyNews, the boy was rushed to Korle-Bu while exhibiting symptoms similar to rabies. But the parents reportedly denied the boy had come in contact with any dog.
A test for the novel coronavirus returned proved positive.
According to reports, while awaiting the test results, the patient was put on a ventilator but died passed before his Covid-19 status was confirmed.
It is believed that the death has sent shock waves through the premier teaching hospital, forcing several doctors and nurses into self-quarantine.
Meanwhile, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has confirmed that Ghana’s Covid-19 cases have skyrocketed to a staggering 2,074 as over 400 new cases were recorded today Friday, April 30, 2020.
So far, about 212 people or some 11 per cent of infected patients have officially been reported to have recovered.
