Ghana Records 121 More Coronavirus Infections As Cases hit 1,671

The country’s Covid-19 case count has spiked by 121 more new infections, the Ghana Health Service has said.

Consequently, Ghana’s caseload is now 1,671 with 11 deaths. Director-General of the Ghana Health Service, Dr Patrick Aboagye, reports that 33 more patients have recovered, improving the recoveries to 188.

“As of this morning, we have 1,671 cases. Out of this, 563 have come from general surveillance, 105 still remain part of the earlier quarantine, 10 from the quarantine in Tamale and 1,113 from enhanced tracing,” he said.

“188 have recovered and there are more people waiting for their second test to be discharged.”

The update was made during Tuesday’s edition of the Covid-19 updates by Government at the Ministry of Information in Accra.

Out of the total number of cases, 1,461 are not showing symptoms and are responding to treatment. However, six are ill, some critically.

“Two are at UGMC [University of Ghana Medical Centre], three are at the Ga East Municipal and one at Korle Bu Teaching Hospital,” Dr. Aboagye said.

According to him, 237 people who have tested positive for the virus are being in kept in isolation centres instead of health facilities. 174 are in isolation centres in Accra, while Eastern and Ashanti regions have 50 and 9 of them, respectively.

Greater Accra remains Ghana’s epicentre with 1,433 cases in a regional breakdown.

Ashanti has 84 cases, Eastern 57, Upper East 18, Oti 17, Central 17, Northern 13, Volta 11, Western 9, Upper West 8, North East 2 and Western North 1.

Savanna, Bono East, Bono and Ahafo have not recorded cases.
