Korle Bu Hospital Cancer Patients Asked To Go Home …because of coronavirus

The coronavirus pandemic is constraining the Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital to fixate attention on fighting it, with the Hospital forced to play Russian roulette with the lives of other patients.

According to information picked up by Whatsup News, the Hospital has cancelled the appointments of cancer patients due for chemotherapy. These patients have been asked to remain at home.

Sources explain that the doctors at the country’s premier Hospital believe that the suspension of cancer treatment reduces pressure on personnel and it is also beneficial for the patients to stay away from the Hospital because it removes them from the way of possible fatal infections with Covid-19 which preys on underlying chronic illnesses in its victims.

As cancer patients, especially those on chemotherapy have weakened immune systems, doctors fear that an infection with coronavirus may easily mean certain death for such cancer patients.

As one breast cancer patient describes it, “to tell us this, is just a nice way of telling us to go home and die.”

Patients who can afford it are free to seek treatment with private hospitals but apart from the high cost of private treatment, in Ghana, the best oncologists are typically found in Korle-Bu.

And for those who can even afford to fly overseas for treatment, it is not possible at this time because coronavirus has forced the country to shut her borders.

RETRACTION

We regret the factual error in our April 5, 2020 publication with the headline titled, “Panic Hits Doctors, Nurses As Covid-19 Kills Top Doctor.”

In the story, we reported that: “Last week, one Professor Goodrich is reported to have died from Covid-19.” This sentence created an impression that the deceased Professor died in Ghana, which is not the case.

We regret all undue pain that the portion of the story may have caused family and friends of the deceased.

We however stand by the other content of the story which essentially states that the cases of infection of medical personnel at the nation’s hospitals in the frontline of the Covid-19 fight is generating panic among them.

Thank You.
