Three Large Hospitals Come On Stream As Covid-19 Treatment Facilities

Health Minister, Kwaku Agyemang Manu, has reported that three extra hospitals in the country, have come on stream as facilities that will host and treat covid-19 patients if the infections spike further.

At a press conference in Accra today, the Minister listed the Hospital as; the University of Ghana Medical Centre, which has been freshly completed and is originally purposed as a referral centre and Teaching Hospital.

The others are the Bank of Ghana Hospital and the Ga East Municipal Hospital.

“University of Ghana Hospital, the Ga East hospital which has a 100 bed capacity and the Bank of Ghana Hospital are all going to take care of patients who test positive.

“University of Ghana Medical Centre, that is ready for use. Training has been completed. There are 14 beds for holding area and 14 beds for treatment. 5 ICU beds are also ready.

“We have had an engagement with Bank of Ghana and they have released two floors that will take care of 20 beds for our use. Because the facility doesn’t belong to the Ministry of Health, the Bank of Ghana has agreed t5hat their own people and some VIP personnel will be allowed there.”

Hon. Agyemang Manu had made the announcement after giving an update on the Coronavirus infections that tell of 34 new cases detected from local spread of the virus. Ghana’s caseload is consequently 195 infections.
