GES Orders Schools To Suspend All Public Activities

The Ghana Education Service (GES) has ordered all schools around the country to suspend all public activities after Ghana recorded its first case of the corona virus infections yesterday.

A letter signed by Director General, Prof. Opoku Anakwaa said all public activities including Speech and Prizing Giving Day ceremonies are to be canceled until further notice.

The letter which was addressed to all Regional Directors of Education also directed that students be educated on the deadly corona virus which causes the covid19 disease.

It said the required educational materials had been made available to the schools along with the letter and that they were jointly developed by the GES and the Ghana Health Service.

“Regional and District Education Directors are to ensure that Heads of Schools make the materials readily available to staff and students. Educational Directors are also expected to liaise with their respective Regional and District Directors to ensure smooth educational campaigns in the schools,” the statement said.

The directive is coming after the GES and the Ghana Health Service had held an emergency meeting and released a joint communiqué that prescribed the education campaign along with curtailment of public activities in school.
