…he smells Finance Minister’s Enterprise Insurance in the details
Musician and anti-corruption activist, Kwame Asare Obeng, has demanded official information on government’s purchase and distribution of 307 ambulances from the Minister of Special Development Initiatives.
Through his lawyers, Addo&Addo Legal Attorneys, he is demanding that details of the manner the ambulances were sourced be furnished to him.
He wants to know if the ambulances had been purchased by sole-sourcing or through competitive tendering. Meaning, he wants clarification as to whether the company/ies that supplied the ambulance were single sourced picked out of competitive bidding.
The musician also wants to know the names of the companies.
In the 20th February, 2020 letter to Minister, Mavis Hawa Koomson, signed by Lawyer Nii Kpakpo Samoa Addo, A Plus also demands to know if Enterprise Insurance, the insurance company belonging to Finance Minister, Ken Ofori-Atta was the company which got the insurance contract to insure the ambulances.
“We would like to know if the 307 ambulances procured by the government have been insured.
“If your answer to question 6 above is in the affirmative, we would like to request the name and address of the said insurance company. We are reliably informed that the insurer of the 307 ambulances is Enterprise Insurance,’ A-Plus’ lawyers wrote.
The letter demanded details about the insurance cover and explanations as to why the Finance Minister’s company was selected if Enterprise was sole-sourced.
According to Lawyer Nii Samoa, they would want their reply in hard copy or on a disc drive for which their client is willing to pay.
The lawyers said their demand was being made under A-Plus’ entitlements uunder the Right To Information Law.
Government last month distributed 307 ambulances to the various districts in the country after an elaborate inauguration ceremony in Accra, the national capital.
As A-Plus request implies, the procurement of the ambulances may have entailed the breach of procurement laws.
