IGP Places Ghc10,000 Bounty On Head Of Mankesim Cop Murdering Armed Robbers

The Inspector General of Police (IGP), James Oppong Boanuh, has announced a Ghc10,000 bounty for a gang of armed robbers who shot and killed a Police Officer at Mankesim in the Central Region, after a robbery attempt.

According to the announcement, the money is available for collection to anybody who can provide information on the whereabouts of the robbers whose identities are not known.

In addition to murdering Lance Corporal Kingsley Boahene, in what appears to be a targeted killing, the robbers had allegedly also inflicted gun wounds on two other officers.

They are said to have staged an attack on a filling station called Zen yesternight, but a distress call from the station to a patrol team had led to the Police storm the place.

Upon the Police response, the suspects exchanged fire with the Police in a shootout but eventually fled from the more professional gunmanship of the trained Police. The Police patrol team was eventually not successful in an attempted arrest and therefore returned to patrol duties.

Later however, the Police received another distress call from the community that a gunshot had been heard. The patrol team rushed there and discovered that one of their colleagues, who was not on duty, had been shot by the roadside.

It is suspected that the murder had been committed by the gang of armed robbers who had earlier attacked the Zen Filling Station in a wild vendetta over the first encounter with the Police at the Filling station.

The body of the victim, who was in mufti when he was killed has since been deposited at the Cape Coast Teaching Hospital morgue.
