NPP Pegs Flag-bearer Ticket At GHC 200,000

The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) has opened nominations for interested party members who wish to run on the party’s presidential and Parliamentary tickets in the 2020 elections to step up to the plate.

For persons nursing any ambitions of contesting President Akufo-Addo for the 2020 presidential ticket, there is a whopping price tag of Gh₵200,000 – the old cedi equivalent of ₵2billion – to scale.

And this is only the filing fee because any such flagbearer aspirant will first have to pick a nomination form at a non-refundable application fee of GH¢20,000.

Thereafter, “a Presidential Vetting Committee (PVC) shall be established to examine and vet the candidature of every aspirant for the presidential nomination of the party to ensure that such person qualifies to contest for the office of the President of the Republic,” a statement from the party said.
Similarly, people who will aspire for the 2020 Parliamentary tickets of the party for the various constituencies will have to shell out Ghc2, 000 for nomination forms. They will then also be required to pay Ghc20,000 filing fee.

“All Aspiring Parliamentary Candidates other than the sitting Members of Parliament shall pay a Party Development Fee of GH¢30,000.

“However, Women, Youth and Person With Disabilities (PWDs) will enjoy a rebate of 50% on the filing fees and Development Levy. By this, they will be required to pay a non-refundable fee of GH¢27,000,” the party’s statement said.

The presidential nomination forms would be available at the office of the General Secretary, the statement said.
