NPP Lobbies Universities To Accept Free SHS First Graduates

The Akufo-Addo government is aiming to have all members of the first batch of graduates under the Free Senior High School program to be wholly absorbed by the public universities.

Consequently, the Minister of State in Charge of Tertiary Education, Prof. Kwesi Yankah, is on assignment to the various public universities across the country, to deliver President Akufo-Addo’s order to them to absorb all FSHS graduates who apply for admission in September 2020.

Last week, Prof. Yankah made stopovers at the University of Ghana, the Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) the Accra Technical University  and the Somanya University.

At the various Universities, he announced that government will commence admissions in August 2020 and asked the University to make room to accept applicants.

Sources at the Education Ministry tell WhatsUp News that he will commence a second leg of the nationwide tour, next week.

Apparently, the aim is to ensure that Free SHS is a flawless political statement for the government in the upcoming election in December, hence the move to show the voting public that the first batch of beneficiaries all make it to the University.

The NPP is viewing the Free SHS Program as its golden egg and the main message to sell itself to voters in the 2020 election. It is therefore said to be doing everything possible to ensure that nothing taints the main campaign message.
