Wife of the Bank of Ghana driver who allegedly shot his girlfriend dead in a Kumasi hotel and then allegedly feigned robbery, has become person of interest in the case.
Berlinda Awuku is on bail after she was earlier arrested and questioned by the Police.
This is the same Berlinda Awuku who allegedly lodged a report with the Police claiming that her husband had been attacked by robbers at the Cedar Crescent Hotel on New Year’s day.
Police think the report she lodged was a deliberate fakery aimed to help conceal her husband’s mastermind of the homicide.
“We want to know what role she has played so we are investigating her as well,” Ashanti Regional Deputy Commander, ACP David Agyemang Adjem, who confirmed her arrest said.
It is not yet known what charges have been slapped on her.
Restaurateur, Comfort Owusu Afriyie, 46, had been found dead in the hotel with a fatal gun wound to the chest. She had visited the hotel with Edwin Awuku, 42, with whom she was having an extra marital affair, on New Year’s day.
Awuku, who is suspected to have murdered his girlfriend, later informed managers of the hotel that he had been robbed and that the robbers had shot the girlfriend while his wife, had proceeded to the Police station to report the alleged robbery.
However, Police investigation led to the conclusion that the report was a deliberate conjuration by the couple to cover up the murder. Her husband has already been arraigned.
“We cannot charge the wife as we may charge the husband but yes, there are investigations going on,” ACP Adjem of the Kumasi Police said.
