Whatsup News has picked up information that President Akufo Addo and his cabinet are currently locked up in a crunch meeting that may yield surprising announcements in the coming days.
The information indicates how important this meeting is, as the President placed a call through to the Jubilee House last week from Russia, for the meeting to be organised as soon as he arrived in the country.
Whatsup News cannot confirm the location. However, such meetings are usually held at the plush resort at Senchi-Akosombo.
Meanwhile, the exact details of the meeting is not yet clear, but snippets picked up by Whatsup News points at a potential ministerial reshuffle and a possible scrapping of certain ministries. This is because insiders say the Akufo Addo administration is growing increasingly uncomfortable with the flak it is receiving for the for its mammoth size and its expenditure guzzling in the face of cash constraints of the government.
The New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration is also reported to be particularly jittery about the nationwide agitations against bad roads and the government’s refusal to invest in road infrastructure.
These agitations from both angry citizens and road contractors forced the government last week, to release a staggering GHC 2.2 billion to pay off more than GHC 3 billion debt it owed road contractors for than two years.
The reported crunch meeting is also coming just in time as the Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta prepares to wrap up the 2020 national budget. The 2020 budget critical for this government because it will have to factor the fact that it will be an election year, and the Bretton Woods institutions and other international agencies have warned it against overspending. The meeting is expected to span today, November 1, 2019, and end on Saturday, November 2, 2019.
