Fire Guts Foam Company At Malam Junction

A foam manufacturing company has had its warehouse located at Malam Junction, a suburb of Accra, gutted by fire.

Products, machinery and chemicals worth several millions of cedis burned to ashes in the fire which to took almost four hours to douse.

Some residents have reported that the fire was first detected around 3 am Friday. It took Fire officers some 3 hours 45 minutes to completely douse the flames with multiple fire engines.

Assistant Fire Officer and Acting Director of operations of the Ghana National Fire Service, James Owusu Agyei, says the exact cause of the fire is not known and that the Fire Service has launched investigation.

“We were called at about 03:3 hours that there was fire outbreak at Malam Junction, so we responded at about 03:48 hours. But the first fire tender, we call it pump, when it got to the scene saw that the fire was well alight, so even before getting to the scene, we called for assistance.  “We have been able to manage and extinguish the fire. Now, after extinguishing the fire we realized it was a foam mattress company…it’s a warehouse where they have the machines, processing and everything in there, so its like all in all, in the warehouse, we are yet to conduct investigations to ascertain what is the cause of the fire,” Mr. Owusu Agyei said.
