The ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) is set for tomorrows extraordinary delegates’ to elect Parliamentary Candidates in 100 out of 106 orphan Constituencies that it is aiming to snatch from the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Evans Nimako, head of Research and Elections at the NPP says all the necessary logistics have been supplied for the primaries along with security to be provided by the Police.
“There are 106 constituencies that the party (NPP) has no sitting members of Parliament. Arrangement has been made but for primaries there (however) yesterday, General Secretary (John Boadu) said that the party will go ahead and conduct elections in 100 constituencies, leaving out 6,” Mr Nimako said.
According to him, eligible delegates include “all constituency executives, all electoral area coordinators in the constituencies, all polling station executives, council of elders and patrons in the constituencies and any foundation member of the party in the constituencies who vote in the 100 constituencies.”
Tomorrow, the ruling party’s Parliamentary primaries for 100, so called orphan constituencies (orphan because they are seats occupied by the NPP’s opponents, the NDC) across the country.

Conferences in Chereponi, Hohoe, Krachi West, Afadjato South, Kpando and Anlo are the ones on holdThe hold up in Chereponi is due to grievances in relation to tribal issues in twhile in Hohoe, where the Minister of Energy, Mr John Peter Amewu is the sole contender, it has been put on hold because mewu is bereaved.A total of 283 aspirants, including 28 women, have since been given the cleared to contest in Saturday’s Parliamentary primaries happening across the country.A total of 292 aspirants picked forms for the contest but nine of them were disqualified during the vetting process. 16 of the constituencies have aspirants going unopposed and therefore delegates will decide on them by popular acclamationDeputy Chief of Staff, Samuel Abu Jinapor, is contesting Damango ticket as a sole candidate; same as Mr Mustapha Ussif, the Chief Executive of the National Service Scheme (NSS) who is contesting Yagaba-Kobore as a sole candidate.At Wassa East, Mr Wilson Atta, the District Chief Executive (DCE) for the area who is also the 2016 NPP candidate for the area is contesting as a sole candidate same as Asawasi where Alidu Seidu, the Municipal Chief Executive (MCE) who is also the 2016 NPP candidate is contesting as a sole candidate.Energy Minister, John Peter Amewu, is also the sole candidate for Hohoe.Meanwhile, at the Asawase Constituency, a disqualified aspirant, Manaf Ibrahim has secured an injunction against the polls. He is said to have been disqualified for misconduct by the Constituency Vetting Committee on Thursday but argues that he has since argued.As at the time of going to press, the Constituency executives had however said that they had not received any injunction
