The Akufo Addo government has today met with some political parties in the country in a move to shore up solidarity to back the fight against the deadly Covid-19 pandemic.
Today representative of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), New Patriotic Party (NPP), Convention Peoples Party (CPP) and the National Democratic Party (NDP) held a meeting with government at the behest of the Akufo-Addo administration.
According to reports which have since been confirmed by Information Minister, Kojo Oppong Nkrumah, the move was to bring the parties’ leaders on board as conduits through which their followers can be educated and rallied against Covid-19.
Ghana today recorded 64 new infections, bringing its known case count to 132. there have also been 4 confirmed deaths.
Describing the situation as a national crisis, Deputy Health Minister, Alexander Aban, said the times call for honest national engagements devoid of politics.
“This Covid 19 has actually made us aware that despite all the sophistication of this world and all the things we can boast of, we have been shown how limited we are. Because we are dealing with an invisible enemy and we are not able, in fact, we are completely helpless and guided by that we should now know that when you are going to war, what you require is unity of purpose,” he said.
“So for now, every political party we all have to just go into amour and put on all our accoutrements all the gadgets that we need for the fight. Because if we start doing internal bickering and we think its business as usual before you realize we will be overtaken by events.”
“This is not the time that we want to build political capital out of a very serious situation. The situation is precarious. We need everybody to be on deck,” he said.
