Share the post "598 Contacts Of First 27 Covid-19 Patients Traced, One Has Tested Positive"
A total of 598 people who had come in contact with the first 27 people under treatment for the deadly Covid-19 disease have been traced, the Ghana Health Service (GHS) has said.
After a mandatory 14 days of continuous observation of 19 of these, at least 1 has developed symptoms and tested positive for the coronavirus which causes the Covid-19 disease, according to the Service.
Head of Public Health at the GHS, Dr. Badu Sarkodie, this morning told journalists that the new patient has also been isolated for treatment while contact tracing continues.
Ghana confirmed its first case of Covid-19 on 12th March 2020. Since then, the infections have risen sharply and as at yesterday 521 suspected cases had been tested for Covid-19 by the Noguchi Memorial Institute for Research and the Kumasi Medical Centre for Collaborative Research.
The country has so far recorded two deaths. Of the 27 who had been confirmed before today, 20 are Ghanaians and are mainly people who had returned home from various affected countries abroad.
The remaining 7 are of other nationalities, including Norway, Lebanon, China, France and the UK.
Globally, 177 countries and territories have reported cases and as at today, a total of 381, 598 cases including 16,559 deaths had been recorded.
