Parliament Relocating To Conference Center Over Covid-19 As 8 MPs Go Into Quarantine.

Ghana’s Parliament will, in the coming days, transplant itself to the International Conference Center as fears of coronavirus (Covid-19) grips the legislative house.

Speaker of the House, Rt. Hon. Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye, announced the impending exodus today on the floor of the House.

“We are in the process of making all relevant arrangements if we can relocate temporarily to the conference center…,” he said.

Apparently, the move is to make way for the fumigation of Parliament House. Last week, the Speaker had asked the Clerk to make arrangements for the House to be fumigated.

The Speaker’s fastidiousness about deodorizing his workplace has been viewed in some quarters as rather hysterical. A fortnight ago, he had asked for temperature scanners to be fitted to Parliament House to augment sanitizers that had already been installed at vantage points in the House.

Meanwhile, eight more Members of Parliament have been told to self-quarantine after recent trips abroad.

The Speaker of Parliament who made the announcement on Monday, March 23, 2020, failed to name the eight MPs.

The latest MP quarantining follows another incident last week, where  two Members of Parliament and five parliamentary service staff who travelled outside the country recently were ordered to be in self-quarantine for the mandatory 14-day period before returning to work.

The MPs involved are Binduri legislator, Dr. Robert Baba Kuganab-Lem and Ayawaso East lawmaker, Mahama Nasser Toure.
