Water Rationing In The Offing, Consumers Risk Covid-19 Exposure

The Ghana Water Company Limited is advising members of the public to store up water as it prepares to embark on water rationing in parts of the country.

The ensuing scramble for water is likely to force consumers to defy the ban on public gathering in their search for water. Already, residents in Parts of Accra hit with water shortages are queuing in long rows to access water.

It is not clear what the cause of the upcoming rationing is, but a short announcement on Accra based Joy FM warned that people who do not shore upon water would only have themselves to blame.

The eerie announcement is coming at a time that Ghana, along with the rest of the world, is under siege from the deadly coronavirus infections that has forced governments to urge regular hand washing.

Without adequate water, Ghanaians are vulnerable to the potential spreading of the coronavirus from unwashed hands.

In the past, the GWCL has shut off water to make way for maintenance of their facilities.

WhatsUp News attempted to contact the GWCL for an explanation as to the nature of the upcoming water rationing regime and the reasons driving it but the company’s landlines never seemed to go through.

An online chat window in the company’s website also announced that there was no one available to respond to questions.
