AMA Partners with Police to Enforce President’s Order Against Public Gatherings

The Accra Metropolitan Assembly (AMA) has partnered with the Ghana Police Service to enforce President Akufo-Addo’s order against public gatherings  in government’s bid to fight the coronavirus pandemic scare.

The collaboration is just one of a number of measures that the Assembly adopted after its Emergency Response Team met yesterday to adopt measures against the deadly virus.

Consequently, the public is to expect an AMA cum Police taskforce that would be on the prowl to arrest people who gather in public contrary to the orders by the President.

Today, the Attorney General appeared in Parliament to present a legislation that Government is sponsoring to back the President’s orders.

In addition to the enforcement taskforce, the AMA has also adopted measures that change the way the Assembly contracts marriages at its offices. The conduct of marriages at the AMA city hall has been limited only to couples, and two witnesses from both the groom and the bride’s side.

All public gatherings and programs at the AMA City Hall have been suspended until further notice.

Also, all food vendors in the metropolis should provide hand  washing facilities and observe hygiene standards per the food safety  and hygiene by-laws of the Assembly

“All public toilets in the metropolis have been directed to provide hand washing facilities  at the entrances under acceptable sanitation standards as prescribed in the sanitation by-laws of 2017,” the AMA has ordered.
