One of two aspirants contesting for the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP)’s 2020 Parliamentary ticket for Atiwa East in the Eastern Region is a fugitive from the law in Sierra Leone where he is wanted for fraud, Whatsup News has gathered.
Kafui Amegah is reportedly on the run from the Sierra Leonean Police after he allegedly defrauded unsuspecting victims of a whopping 2.3billion Leons.
He is alleged to have masterminded the financial crime as the ringleader of a gang which had used a fake microfinance company to woo the hard-earned savings of unsuspecting Sierra Leoneans.
Through a so-called Eclipse Microfinance company limited, Mr. Amegah and the gang are said to have convinced their victims to surrender their monies at the promise of receiving mouth-watering interests in return.
However, the suspects were later to find out that the fantastic promises that owners of Eclipse Microfinance had made to them, were bigger than the cash power necessary to generate the kind of supernormal profit margins.
Eventually, Sierra Leone’s Central Bank got involved, but rather too late; by the time the Banks of Sierra Leone was closing down the operational office of Eclipse Microfinance, situated at Siaka Stevens Street, and its office, situated at Pademba Road, Kafui Amegah, the alleged ring leader of the gang of fraudsters had fled the country.
Mr. Amegah, according to a report by Sierra Leone’s Standard Times Press Newspaper had however left behind at least one accomplice named simply as Kweku, behind.
The Sierra Leonean Police have since arrested the said Kweku and have him helping with investigations.
Meanwhile, Kafui Amegah has since been cooling off in Ghana and has now ventured into Politics. He is competing with the incumbent MP for Atiwa East, for the NPP’s 2020 Parliamentary ticket.
