Kwabena Frimpong-Boateng Minister for Environment, Science, Technology & Innovation and also Chairperson for the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) has raised eyebrows by claiming excavators that were seized from illegal miners have vanished into thin air.
Prof Frimpong, has been fingered for being complicit in the illegal gold mining activities across the country, and thus, his revelation of vanishing excavators has raised even more suspicions around him.
Recently, a taskforce set up by the Small Scale Mining Association to fight illegal mining seized about 500 excavators from these illegal miners.
These machines were kept at various district assemblies, but Prof. Frimpong-Boateng says most of them have disappeared.
“The task force seized a lot of excavators and kept them at the various offices, we sent people to talk to the district assemblies, we got vanguard involved and we realized most of the excavators have disappeared,” he said on the Joy Super Morning Show on Monday.
The government last year launched a campaign against illegal mining popularly known as ‘Galamsey’ and tasked the Prof. Frimpong-led IMCIM to crackdown on the illegal miners who have destroyed rivers and forest reserves across the country.
However, mid last year, a damning undercover documentary by ace journalist Anas Aremeyaw Anas titled “Galamsey Fraud” exposed Charles Cromwell Bissue, the Secretary to Prof. Frimpong at the IMCIM.
Mr. Bissue was exposed by ace investigative journalist Anas Aremeyaw when he was secretly filmed taking a first-tranche inducement of GHC 15,000 out of GHC 50,000 to “Fast-track” the illegal mining operations of Orr Resources, a dummy illegal mining company set up by Anas Aremeyaw’s Tiger Eye PI investigative team.
Earlier, there had been news reports linking Prof. Frimpong to illegal mining deals.
Meanwhile, since the airing of the explosive first part of Galamsey Fraud, Whatsup News gathered that pressure from powerful quarters within the government have been exerted on Anas Aremyaw to hold on to the release of the even more explosive second part.
Mr. Bissue has remained a Presidential Staffer since the incident which points at a deeper illegal mining mafia operating from the Jubilee House.
