After several months of bad press against businessman, Mr Hassan Zein in the Malian media landscape, the business mogul has won a (100,000) CFA Francs defamation suit against a group of Middle Eastern partners based in Mali.
Mohammed Mahamoud Ibrahim and his father Mohamed Ould Ibrahim who were in business relationship with Hassan Zain are alleged to be behind the media onslaught in Mali to run down the businesses of Mr. Zain.
Last week, the Malian court has slapped a (100,000) CFA Francs fine against one Seyni T. KASSAMBARA who works for one of the media houses. The court found him guilty and would have to cough up the amount or spend three months in prison.
A Bamako Appeal Court (District IV court) ruling to that effect stated that “Ruling publicly, contradictorily in matters of press crime in the first instance, After having deliberated in accordance with the law. Receives the exceptions raised: Rejects the exceptions raised by the Cheick O council.”
Late last year, some media houses in Mali launched a series of negatives stories against the Ghanaian businessman and philanthropist.
Whatsup News gathered that, the consistent publications in both print and electronic media in Mali had a telling effect on the many businesses owned by Mr Zein, and more importantly his health.
Meanwhile, Mohamed and Ibrahim of Middle Eastern extraction based in Mali are currently wanted in Ghana for various crimes including rape, money laundering, and threatening the lives of several people, including Mr. Zain who had been a former acquaintance.
Whatsup News gathered that the relationship between Zain and the two fugitive’s went sour when one of them reportedly raped a 14-year old Ghanaian girl and Zain had sought justice for the victim.
According to lawyers for Zain, the two who were recently cited for duping a Turkish Businessman by more than US$ 1 million, have started paying media houses in Mali to plant defamatory stories against Zain whom they had formerly dealt with.
