Galamsey Kingpin, Dr. Frimpong Boateng Was Not Invited To Galamsey Dialogue Because He Failed …Innusah Fuseini

Former Land and Natural Resources Minister, Innusah Fuseini, has observed that the National Consultative Dialogue on Small Scale Mining is government’s admission that its inter-ministerial Committee on Illegal Mining (IMCIM) was a failure.

In an interview with Accra-based Star FM, Hon. Fuseini, who is the former MP for Tamale Central, pointed out that the failure of the Committee is reason the IMCIM’s Chairman, former Minister for Environment and Science, Prof. Kwabena Frimpong Boateng was snubbed by organizers of the current dialogue.

“The inter-ministerial committee was a total failure. The chairman of the committee was not even invited to share his expertise at the forum which is ongoing. The President knowing it was a failure does not want to be associated with it that’s why a new platform is being created to deal with the situation,” Innusah Fuseini said.

He added that the failure of Dr. Frimpong Boateng’s IMCIM was so thorough that not even the Police and Military personnel that the government deployed could save it.

The IMCIM had been outdoored with fanfare in the first tenure of President Akufo-Addo and flaunted as the government’s masterstroke to the problem of galamsey.

However, it soon emerged that members of the Committee itself were corrupt and had decided to use the committee to enrich themselves. Charles Cromwell Bissue, a Presidential Staffer who was on the Committee had been caught on video allegedly demanding bribe in exchange for awarding a mining license to an illegal mining company.

As for the Sector Minister, Prof. Frimpong Boateng, it soon came out to the public that he was seizing galamsey equipment, mines and gold and distributing them to family members, friends and party people.

He would deny the allegation however, a secretly recorded video in which he was caught confirming that he had turned over some galamsey mines over to NPP party folks so they can work and generate money to support the party sealed the notoriety of Prof. Frimpong Boateng as a galamsey kingpin.

Interestingly, it was under him that earth-moving equipment that had been seized from illegal miners had also curiously gone missing.
