Akufo Addo Appoints Gabby’s Boy Into National Security —Sacks Deputy National Security Coordinator

President Akufo Addo has sacked Opare Duncan, the Deputy National Security Coordinator who has been acting as National Security Coordinator following the death of Joshua Kyeremeh, the then-substantive coordinator.

President Akufo-Addo has replaced Duncan with Major General Francis Adu-Amanfoh, a former Ambassador to Mali.

However, the more eyebrow-raising part of the restructuring at the National Security is the appointment of Edward Asomani, a former executive at Danquah Institute, a pro-New Patriotic Party (NPP) think-tank that was founded by President Akufo Addo’s cousin, Gabby Asare Otchere-Darko, sparking a renewed suspicion of cronyism from a President who has been thoroughly bashed for his addiction to appointing his family and friends into key government positions.

It is unclear why President Akufo Addo sacked Duncan, but what is clear is that his position will be occupied by a face familiar to the crème de la crème of the Jubilee House.

Edward Asomani was appointed to the Danquah Institute in November 2018 as a research executive and he was reportedly still at post at Danquah Institute when he was handed his new responsibility.
