Akufo Addo, Mahama Sends Coronavirus Ramadan Message to Muslims

President Akufo Addo and ex-President John Dramani Mahama have issued felicitations to Muslims in the country in their peculiar Eid-ul-Fitr festival this year.

Muslims across the country and globally have been unable to converge to celebrate one of the biggest religious festivals due to the ravaging Covid-19 coronavirus and the consequent banning of public gatherings in the country.

“May Allah protect us from Covid-19, grant us good health & accept our prayers,” Mr. Mahama said in a short social media message.

In a message delivered by President Akufo Addo, he said “This year’s Ramadan fast will remain unique in Islamic history as one that was observed without the usual activities and buzz that come with the Ramadan fast.”

The President continued: “Muslims have had to fast without the traditional iftar, tafsir, tarawih and tahajjud prayers. I know that, for many of you, this has been a very difficult sacrifice to make, since these activities, in the consciousness of all Muslims, cloak the month of Ramadan in sanctity and holiness. And, so, I salute you for these sacrifices that you have made for our collective good.”

In Ghana, the traditional prayers to mark the festival was conducted virtually by the ageing Chief Imam, Osman Nuhu Sharubutu.
