The Ghana Police Service has reported that suspects who were arrested over the March 1 gruesome murder of the Assemblyman for Sogakope South, Marcus Mawutor Adzahli, have begun singing, saying his resistance to the robbery attempt on him caused his death.
In a fit of self-confession, Amos Abakla, one of five suspects arrested, cracked under Police interrogation and explained that the deceased victim was shot and stabbed because he resisted the robbery of his home, which was the robbery gang’s original agenda.
Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police, COP Isaac Ken Yeboah, told a press conference Monday that the suspect said the killing of the late Assemblyman was not a contract killing as has been widely believed.
“He confessed that he and one other person who is on the run, shot the deceased after he put up a resistance which made Adjei –another suspect- to stab him.
“According to Amos, the murder of Mawutor was as a result of resistance by the deceased during the attack and that it was not contract killing,” COP Yeboah said.
The CID boss also revealed that Abakla has since led Police to arrest the ring leader of the gang.
As gang lord, Vincent Dzotekpe, 34, per the confession of Abakla, had provided the weapons for the robbery operation, DCOP Yeboah said.
The singing suspect is said to have also named two more cartel soldiers from the Vincent Dzotekpe ring, who participated in the March 1 dastardly robbery and murder, but the two are on the run from the law and are being hunted by the Police.
COP Ken Yeboah said the five suspects who have been arrested so far have all been remanded.
It would be recalled that on March 1 2020, robbers besieged the home of the late Marcus Mawutor Adzahli and broke in after several hours of trying to knock down the doors. While they were at it, the victim and his family had been calling the Police emergency line for rescue but nobody had picked up from the end of the Police.
Eventually, when the doors gave way, the robbers killed the late Assemblyman and wounded his wife and daughter before carrying away a safe containing an unknown amount of money.
