Allegations of Bribery Rock Chieftaincy Ministry as Five New Traditional Councils Inaugurated in Volta

Following the recent announcement by the Ministry of Chieftaincy and Religious Affairs that it is inaugurating five new traditional councils in the Volta Region, allegations have emerged that the Ministry exacted money in exchange for the new status bestowed on the five traditional councils.

According to the allegation, the Ministry wringed Ghc60,000 from each of the would-be traditional councils. Whatsup news has not been able to verify the claim.

The five new traditional councils are Hevi, Dzodze, Weta, Anyako, and Awate. If this is true, then the five traditional councils paid a combined total of Ghc300,000.

Meanwhile, the statement announcing the new traditional councils was signed by Mr. Harry Attipoe, Registrar of the Volta Regional House of Chiefs.

The inaugurations are to take place over three days, starting from May 7, and concluding on Thursday, May 9.

“Hevi and Dzodze Traditional Councils will be inaugurated on Tuesday, May 7, at 1000 and 1400hours respectively,” the statement said.

It said the Traditional Councils, Weta and Anyako, would also be inaugurated on Wednesday, May 8, while that of Awate  will be held on Thursday at 1100 hours.

“All Presidents involved are to get their registered Chiefs and Queen Mothers in readiness for the exercise,” it added.
