Law Makers Push Akufo Addo’s Pro-Gay Jubilee House To Sign Bill

..as Akufo-Addo’s Actions Raise Eyebrows

The Ghanaian Parliament has taken a bold stance in its fight against the push for gay rights in the country, as it moves forward with the Proper Human Sexual and Family Values Bill, also known as the anti-gay bill.

In a recent development, Parliament has formally requested a specific date to send the bill to President Akufo-Addo for his assent.

The Clerk of Parliament, K. O Nsiah, sent a letter to Nana Asante Bediatuo, the Secretary to President Akufo-Addo, urging for a decisive response on when the bill can be presented to the President for his consideration.

This move comes after Akufo-Addo’s office had previously stalled the process, citing ongoing legal challenges against the bill. Critics have slammed the President’s office for what they view as a selective approach to signing laws, pointing out that Akufo-Addo had swiftly passed the unpopular electronic transaction levy, known as E-levy, despite facing legal opposition.

The apparent hesitance to sign the anti-gay bill has raised questions about the President’s commitment to upholding Ghanaian cultural values and laws.

Furthermore, President Akufo-Addo’s wavering stance on gay rights has drawn criticism from various quarters. While initially hinting at the possibility of legalizing gay rights in Ghana, he later backtracked on this statement amidst public backlash.

The President’s personal history, including alleged involvement with a lesbian individual, has added fuel to the fire, with many questioning the sincerity of his current position. As the debate over the anti-gay bill intensifies, Ghanaians are closely monitoring the actions of their elected officials and the President.

The push for stricter laws against same-sex relationships has ignited mixed reactions within the country, highlighting deep-rooted societal divisions on the issue.

With Parliament’s unwavering commitment to passing the anti-gay bill and Akufo-Addo’s office under pressure to respond, the future of LGBTQ+ rights in Ghana remains uncertain.

As the nation grapples with this contentious issue, the role of its leadership in shaping the legal landscape and societal norms continues to be scrutinized by both supporters and critics alike.
