BAWUMIA’S BROTHERS CAUGHT IN SHOCKING & DUBIOUS GHC 84 million COCOA ROAD CONTRACTS.

A startling revelation by the Auditor-General (AG), Mr. Johnson Akuamoah Asiedu, has uncovered possible influence-peddling by Vice President Bawumia and his family in the awards of cocoa road contracts worth millions of Ghana Cedis to themselves.

Massive discrepancies were uncovered in the awarding of the cocoa road contracts, as revealed in transmittal letter AG.01/109/Vol.2/189 of the AG, dated 12th June 2023.

The findings disclosed that a staggering 87% of cocoa road contracts since 2020 were awarded through a non-competitive process, with some contracts flagged for being overpriced up to three times the actual cost.

In a due diligence oversight effort by the Ghanaian Parliament, even more eyebrow-raising discoveries were made. It was discovered that a company named Resources Access Limited, which has is owned by family members of Vice President Bawumia, had notably profited from the non-competitive and overpriced cocoa road contracts highlighted by the Auditor-General.

Public Procurement Authority (PPA) documents revealed a particularly noteworthy instance on July 2, 2020, where Resources Access Limited, owned by Abraham Bawumia, the brother of Vice President Bawumia, and Aneta Kaminska Bawumia, were stunningly awarded two single-sourced cocoa road contracts valued at a mind-blowing GH¢83.7 million.

These contracts include the upgrading of the Effutu – Abrem Agona and Effutu – Sorodofo Feeder Road spanning 21.39km in the Central Region, awarded at GH¢54,262,878.84. Additionally, the contract for the upgrading of the Kyiboso Hasowodze Bungalow Feeder Road, covering 14.50km in the Central Region, was granted at GH¢29,468,546.54.

These revelations come amid a recent public lecture delivered by Dr. Bawumiah at the UPSA auditorium, where he adamantly claimed to be incorruptible.

This cannot however be reconciled with allegations fingering him in several questionable transactions, including the latest findings about his family unduly taking advantage of cocoa road contracts.
There are allegations flying all over in the office of the Vice President in connection to the multi-million Oil-for-Gold transaction spearheaded by Bawumia’s office.
Details of the scandals in the oil-for-gold deal are still sketchy, as covert investigations are still ongoing.

Another tongue wagging scandal is how the Vice President and his office accosted four containers of rice imported by a private investor, auctioned it to themselves at and donated to Muslims as Ramadan gift.

Bawumia’s familial connection to the latest scandal in the cocoa roads contracts, adds fuel to questions about his credibility and the ongoing discourse on transparency, accountability, and ethical practices in the awarding of government contracts and procurement processes.

The nation awaits further actions and responses concerning these unsettling revelations in the cocoa road contracts saga, as Dr. Bawumia is vying to contest the 2024 Presidential election despite his monumental failure to rescue Ghana’s economy as he had boasted during the 2016 presidential campaigns.
