Attorney General Dame Fingered in Criminal Charges against Stephen Opoku-Gyimah

The Attorney General Godfred Dame is reportedly meddling in a criminal case involving Stephen Opoku-Gyimah, son of the former NIB managing director, who is standing trial for a dubious rice deal that robbed an Indian investor of millions of dollars.

This shocking turn of events has raised eyebrows and sparked concerns about the integrity of the justice system.

According to the lawyers of the Indian-owned company, Eland International Ghana Limited, the case was scheduled to be held on September 14, 2023, but the Police Prosecution in the case revealed that they were ordered to remove the case docket to Godfred Dame’s office.

Indeed, the trial Judge, Evelyn E. Asamoah complained bitterly about the attempted travesty of justice.

“My instructions are that. It’s on record that a State Attorney by the name Ms. Dufie Prempeh from the Attorney General who stated that she has taken over the case. My instructions are that until otherwise directed, we are not conducting the case,” Justice E. Asamoah wrote in a court memorandum intercepted by Whatsup News.

In what was suspected to be a deliberate attempt to kill the case being held in the Accra Circuit Court 10, on September 14, 2023, when the case was called nobody appeared from the Attorney General’s office.

The case revolves around allegations that Stephen Opoku-Gyimah conspired to deceive Indian investor, Eland International Corporation, through a dubious rice import scheme under the John Agyekum Kufuor administration. The ongoing trial involves multiple charges brought against the accused.

Remarkably, the antics being played out at the Attorney General’s office exposes a clear case of conflict of interest because, before getting appointed as the Minister of Justice, Godfred Odame acted as the legal representative for the accused person and his father, Daniel Gyimah.

Lawyers representing Eland International Ghana Limited, the complainant in the case, subsequently petitioned the Attorney General on the matter. They expressed their concern that the trial was adjourned on September 14, 2023, as there was no representation from the Office of the Attorney General to prosecute the case. This prompted the trial Circuit Court to postpone proceedings and issue consequential orders.

The lawyers emphasized the need for the Attorney General’s office to pay attention to the trial and take the necessary steps to ensure its expeditious prosecution. They provided a certified true copy of the record of proceedings to inform and prompt action from the Attorney General.

The revelation of this development has sparked public outrage and called into question the impartiality of the judicial process. Many are demanding answers and transparency in order to maintain faith in the justice system. The judge will be under scrutiny to see how she navigates this situation and if justice will ultimately be served in this high-profile case.

The fate of Stephen Opoku-Gyimah now hangs in the balance, as the public anxiously awaits further developments in this perplexing twist of events.
