EOCO Warns Of Bank Fraud Cartel Using Ghana Card To Clone Bank Account

The Economic and Organized Crime Office (EOCO) has warned the public of moves by fraudsters to capitalize on the linkage of the Ghana Card to bank accounts by members of the public to defraud them.

In a statement on Thursday, EOCO warned that the fraudsters are using unsolicited click baits and in some instances, even dare place calls to customers of banks for their account details, Mobile App PIN and Mobile numbers.

According to the statement, EOCO has taken “notice with great concerns” of the rate at which some members of the general public have fallen victims to fraudulent banking transactions.

“Fraudsters have taken advantage of the ongoing call on customers of the bank to link their accounts to Ghana Card. Regarding the bank fraud, the fraudulent messages are sent to individuals requesting them to click on links in order to update their bank records,” the statement read.

“Do not click on any link purporting to be emanating from your bank unless you have confirmed from your bank,” EOCO warned.

Meanwhile, the deadline given by the Bank of Ghana to link the Ghana Card to bank accounts was Thursday, June 30, 2022.
